BIG news!

Nope.  I am totally not pregnant.  Thank goodness.

But I do have some exciting news that I’ve been sitting on for a week.  I SIGNED WITH AN AGENT!  The amazing Emily Keyes from L. Perkins Agency offered representation and I signed with her today! I am totally over the moon.  For realzies, guys.

Many of you know I’ve written a few books, and she’ll be representing my book WONDER BREAD.  She will now go out to publishers and pitch them my book to see if we can get this sucker published.  It’s a HUGE deal because without an agent, my dream of getting published with most any publishing house is only that: a dream.

And Emily couldn’t be more supportive and amazing.  I’ve now had the chance to have a couple of phone conversations with her and man, do I feel lucky.  She’s incredibly knowledgeable about the industry, trends, and what editors are looking for.  She has already told me who she hopes to pitch for WONDER BREAD.  And she talked me through where some of her other clients are in regards to getting published, and hearing her speak of them with such faith in their work makes me know I’m lucky to have her behind me.  She’ll be a hell of a champion for WONDER BREAD.  I can already tell.

So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that once I get this bad boy all polished up, a publishing house out there will take me on.  Thanks for your support during this process and I will keep you posted!!

And now, the song to which I used to dance in the mirror when I was ten.  Only for moments like this:

Check out those freaking nightgowns.

The Queen

Last week I saw THE QUEEN in concert.  That’s right, Madonna.

It was a bit ridiculous being that I’d just returned in-country three days before, but it was definitely worth the rally…we bought the tickets months before for this night.  A whole slew of girlies headed down to Denver to witness her show.

The reviews were mixed.  She came on three hours late, which for a bunch of cougars and 40-yr-old gay men was a bit rough.  But I still attest it was worth it.  The opening was off the hook:

And while some were furious with her overt political statements, she is a freaking icon and seeing her was nothing short of legendary.

Many were angered by the use of guns in her show.  Apparently her fans in Denver asked for her to tone down the gun violence due to the recent attack in Aurora.  Her simple answer was no.

And you know what?  I thought it was great.  I wanted to see Madonna because she’s always pushed the envelope.  As a Catholic and a rebel myself growing up, she represents all that is bad-ass.  Sexuality, confidence, power, crisis of faith, independence, creativity and all things little girls think about at different points in life.   The gun thing was just her latest version of “scary” thinking.  I somehow doubt she’s into guns in real life.  And besides that, the woman is 54 and doing yoga, kung-fu and shows her bare ass on the stage…she’s pretty damn hardcore in my book.

It was a hell of a show.  If you grew up loving Madonna and she comes to your town, don’t even hesitate.

The Perils of a Headbanger

Well, I threw my neck out this weekend headbanging.  I was trying to be cool or maybe funny, so I guess that’s kinda what I deserve.

Luke and I do this thing when on long car rides we call “Improv”.  We take turns dancing like crazy, and our kids watch us like we’re nuts.  But they love it and will one day do it too.  You watch.  Anyway, it’s best to do at stoplights because then you get some good reactions from others.  (Just a tip in case you decide to dabble..)

I can’t tell if this injury means I’m getting older and my body just can’t  hang, or if maybe my technique was wrong.  But come to think of it, we used to do a lot of headbanging and air guitar growing up  in the Doyle household and I do remember often feeling like my neck was broken after a solid sesh.  Hey, if it made my parents laugh then a broken neck was a small price to pay.

I did a bit of research and found this video was very informative:

I’ve deduced that perhaps I wasn’t wearing the right clothing at the time of the injury.  Also, it’s harder to head-bang to Jack Johnson (Lollipop rock, as my Dad would call it) in the car then it is to my littlest brother’s favorite song that he somehow knows all the lyrics to:

Maybe if I’d had better music my neck wouldn’t hurt so badly.  Lesson learned.

It doesn’t feel right to end this post without adding this–The Doyle family movie and anthem.  It’s where I first learned my craft.

Careful with those necks, my friends.

Crazy Dance Mom

I’m like one of those crazy bitches who takes her daughter to dance class and gets her all dressed up and shiz so she can dance on stage.  That’s totally me.

Not sure about this dress, Ma

But before you hate, hear me out…

It was like the cutest friggin’ thing I’ve ever seen in my whole entire life.  And she loved it.  Her first dance recital was this weekend and it was on my birthday which made it even better.  Best. Present. Ever.

We took some illegal video, so pardon the terrible quality.  One little darling gets lost on stage (sweet thing) and you’ll have to ignore me sobbing in the background.  I seriously couldn’t stop it was so so cute:

This is perhaps one of my favorite moments when they re-introduced all the tiny dancers in the end and they just look so confused.  I love it with all my heart…

I may be crazy, but it’s well worth it.  LOVE little girls.

Livin’ the Dream

It’s been a really big week for me.  I checked off something huge from my bucket list.  I got an iPhone last week and have been trying to figure out how to use it.  Getting the phone was clearly not on my bucket list (if you know me, you know this).  But I DID get a killer ringtone.  One I’d been fantasizing about for years.  For realz, people.  I’m livin’ the dream.

I think you can tell a lot about a person’s level of coolness by their ringtone.  Luke informed me that one of his good friends has the ring tone Back Then by Mike Jones as his jingle.

Mike Jones -Back Then by lilmarcus

What’s so wonderful about this is that Luke’s friend is as white as they come, has some big fancy job and a young baby at home.  I appreciated picturing him sitting in important meetings and then his phone going off in front of all these big shots.

Whole new level of love.

My tone idea came to me three years ago.  And every birthday and Christmas since, I’ve asked for it.  Though I could have just spent the $1.29 on my own, figuring it all out felt like a million dollar present.  Well, it all came together this week, folks.  So please, give me a call.  Because every time you do, I get to relive the joy of my incredible ringtone.  Cool as they come people, as cool as they come…

(Enjoy the dance moves as well.  Love me some Hindi films..)

Goal Oriented

I like to think of myself as goal oriented.  At least some of the time.  Thus I would like to share a goal I’ll be setting for myself this year:

I’d like to attend a rap concert well into my third trimester wearing leopard-print, stretch pants (which don’t worry, I already own), a fitted black tank top, red lipstick and ho shoes.

Wrong print, but she's got the right idea..

Wouldn’t it be fantastic?  What an excellent way to showcase our new gem to the world before it busts out.

I would prefer if Kanye could tour his new album and show up in Denver between the months of May and July, but I’ll take anything.  Something from the Dirty South would be lovely too.  Anything to shake my baby to..in an outfit to make my Baby Daddy proud.

So please, if you hear of any good concerts (real rap, not like Kesha or Eminem), shoot me an email.  Because real goals only happen through the gracious help of many others.

Something Neat for Friday..

When in India, Leslie and I went to a peace ceremony on the India/Pakistan Border.  People were so fired up they came down from the stands to dance in the streets.  Pretty damn cool.
